Why do I have yellow stains on my white bedding?
How do my sheets turn yellow?
Even though you keep your sheets clean it can still go yellow due to a couple factors which can happen over a period time.
These include: Sweat, body products(lotion, perfumes)bodily fluids, skin oils and other topical skin products.
So what do we recommend if your sheets are turning yellow?
Bleach may seem like a quick and easy solution to get rid of those yellow stains. We wouldn’t recommend our customers using bleach on their bedding as this may either contribute to the discolouration due to the way that it can oxidise and reacts to the fluids in the bedding. It can also contribute to the breakdown of the fibres in the bedding.
How can we get rid of or minimise the yellowing in the white bedding?
The best trick to minimising and getting rid of those yellow stains is all natural sunlight. This helps brighten the sheets so if at all possible hang them outside on a dry sunny day.
Have you also tried this natural home remedy with things that you already have in your kitchen.
A 1/2 cup of baking soda is a natural and safe alternative to bleach. You can mix it directly into your wash along with your preferred detergent. Instead of a traditional fabric softener, we recommend using a 1/2 cup of vinegar as an alternative. Another tip we have learnt along the way is that vinegar is incredibly effective at cutting through oils and grease. This aids in the removal of the oils that have been trapped in the fibers of your bedsheets.
However we do recommend following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Just remember you also want to protect your mattress from becoming yellowish as well so we would recommend using a mattress protector.
